Pheidole Queens

Post by Luke on Thu Jun 18, 2015 11:29 am

Look what arrived for me Dermy - Thursday 18th June. My two Pheidole queens cheers My second attempt with this genus - last time I got them around 300 strong before it collapsed after a greenhouse effect happened in their test-tube sad

Queen 1 - "Blue", small brood of around 5-10 eggs.

Queen 2 - "Yellow". Large brood of around 10-30 eggs

We should have a 'race/competition ' to see who can get the biggest colony of the year.

We should but I'd need to get a queen because my currently colony is at 20+ workers.

I could use my Camponatus queen?

Yes. Lets do it, no limits or restrictions just see who can get their queen(s) to raise the biggest overall colony. Maybe if enough people join with the same ants we can do a biggest colony within a specific genus too... So biggest overall Pheidole, camponatus colony etc.

I hope more people with Camponatus join Razz

At least I can't argue that Camponatus is hard to find [well at least in North America]

Thanks Dermy. She had some more eggs but ironically, they look almost yellow so I don't know if she's infertile.

I could be wrong but you might find they are trophic eggs (for eating) if they are yellow.

Wow. That's really interesting. Will a queen produce them for her Larvae? Because Surely the energy expended to produce trophic eggs wouldn't worth it for herself?
