Post by SpiderSam on Tue Mar 17, 2015 9:37 pm

There will be more pics just adding the last layer this will be empty and non accessible for the crickets just a platform to the top and cutting out the bottom of a yogurt container for the eggs and I believe I can finally raise these guys right hopefully any suggestions to add?!?

It looks great. Do you have food bowls and such?

How many crickets are you going to add? I would use a bigger laying container then a yogurt cup. Like a small Ziplocke container.

1000 crickets for now and I got the lid for the yogurt container (its not those tiny yogurt cups its a big yogurt container) the lid will be used for the fluckers and some veggies and if need be the rim of the lid I could add water but the orange cubes say its for water/food/vitamins

How high can crickets jump? Won't they jump out when you take the lid off?

Well I have had crickets in this container before and never had a problem but im 100% sure if they get on the second they can jump out that's why im making a 3rd layer and making it all the way to the lid and stretching out more so they cant (hopefully cant) jump onto that level and get out but I am accepting the fact that there will be escapees hence why I got my trusty terrier who finds the ones I cant find and eats them

Oh like those huge "more then one serving" things.

Yeah I'd suggest not adding even a little bit of standing water, because it will stink and sometimes you always get the dumb cricket who drowns for no reason....

Water crystals are cheaper then buying those Gel Waters from a pet store. But you have to buy them online usually.

To be honest for now I'd do what I've seen others do. Use the Yogurt Container and eventually if your colony has over 5000+ [or more] then use a coffee can. Right now I think your good though.

I'd keep the coffee can though if you already have it just as back-up.
