Big Composter In The Works

Post by dermy on Mon Mar 16, 2015 12:07 pm

Sorry i Don't have any pictures of it yet but I'm currently working on a big Flow-Through bin for my Isopod Composting 2015. I plan to keep it running for as long as I can and feed it the bulk of my food scraps [obviously not all of them because i will still have my smaller bin running]

I hope to get a lot of compost from it. I have to add some air holes all around the outside near the top so it keeps air-flowing inside and out! Don't want things to get smelly [that really helps decompose things faster as well Very Happy ]

Will keep you updated and eventually get some pics up Very Happy

So for the most part it is finished. I will make sure to post pics here soon but here is a question:

Should I get it started now, or wait till April?

I'm going to be waiting till spring to set this bad boy up so i can use this time to get more compost out of my existing bin. I also need to make the floor holes a lot bigger so that Compost actually falls out and doesn't compress under it all. That is what a real Flow Through is after all, if nothing flows through then it aint a flow through Razz

I'm guessing I will get 1L of compost from my current setup. It's been going for less then 2 months.

I like them because they are simple and straight forward with no "bells and whistles". I like your set ups for the same reason; you show that effective set ups can be made from inexpensive everyday household objects. Smile
