Food Waste

Post by dermy on Fri Feb 27, 2015 1:17 pm

Here is what i normally do with my food waste:

The smaller the better, since it will decompose much faster. After i chopped it i threw it into the Freezer.

Do you feed the waste to your bugs? Wish I knew what to do with the mice the snakes refuse to eat, feels such a waste of life just putting them in the bin sad

If you had a huge colony of dermestids [bigger then mine] and of a different species] then you could feed them the dead ones sad

Yes they seem to like them a lot. Especially the worms for some reason [even though someone told me not to add huge amounts of peppers to a bin] It might be the Micro-Community i've created though. For sure i will be throwing in a small starter amount to the new bin i make soon. It is the microbes that help the Pods and Worms eat and break down the food waste.

Isopods are one of the only composters that can deal with cellulose [wood stuff] in small quantities.

Yes because in the wild they live in woods and eat dead trees.
