Black and Red Velvet Ants

Post by High Lord Dee on Sat Jan 03, 2015 9:40 pm

So, I recently entered the venom world of wasps. Chose Black and Red Velvet Ants (Dasymutilla magnifica). I have three of them. I mentioned to Dermy on another forum that the wierdest thing is that they appear to actually sleep at night? Lay there motionless until about an hour after sun up and begin their days. Strange?

I've been thinking about it and maybe they are just Daytime creatures [I forget the scientific word for it, it's the opposite of Nocturnal] So they need to sleep at night?

Either way I wouldn't want those as pets, whenever I go to check them out they'd be sleeping >_

Well, you could fool them and put lights on the tank? Kind of like Las Vegas and humans Smile

Yes they are called "Cow Killers" because there sting was thought to be able to kill cows [It doesn't btw but I think it's in one of the Top 20 or so Worst Things to Get Stung By or something like that]
