Keeping Mealworms without Substrate?

Post by dermy on Thu Oct 16, 2014 1:52 pm

Thought about a cool experiment to do and I will post pics when I can on here, basically I want to know what will happen if you don't use substrate for the beetles and such. Would they still make babies? Would they still do all the normal stuff or will it only work with substrate?

Time and patience will hopefully answer those questions. I will start the project later tonight.

I have them setup and will post pictures soon. I noticed today (but failed to take a picture) that two beetles were mating!

Thought I'd update on the main concept of this topic. You can in-fact keep and even breed mealworms with no substrate, but you must provide them with carrots and dry food of some sort.
